Blog Post on the Plane back to Indonesia

Hey y'all so I've been back in Southern California for ten months. I had a great spring, summer and fall in my hometown- the longest time I've spent there consecutively since high school. It was nice to be close to family and old friends, as well as making some new ones. It really took being away for me to come back and realize how nice the beaches and open canyon land trails are. I had the good fortune (or maybe made the good fortune with my intentions) to spend much time out on the trails and on the beach, getting paid to be there even! I love working outside as a lifeguard and mindful hiking guide. During my time in Laguna I lived a pretty frugal life, riding a bike instead of buying a car, buying produce in bulk, having a pay as you go flip phone. But still living it up with lots of beach time, family hang time, music time. And now, after this good stay, I'm headed back to Indonesia for a few months. This time I didn't forget my swim fins! Also my brother helped me make a hand plane out of an old skateboard deck, that I'll be getting some sick lift with.

More on that later, right now I'm in the thick of a 14 hour flight, and other than being cramped it's been a good experience, while going through security the person in front of me was the last to go through the full body X-ray before they recalibrated it is I just did the old standard metal detector, the vegan meal on the plane was the best food I've ever has on a flight- fruit cup, lotus root salad, spiced rice, mushrooms in sauce, carrot cabbage tofu, with sweet black rice n taro for dessert. And it was actually enough food, which if you know me well is no small feat (most vegan options at places are calorically super paltry compared to the meat dishes, which is why I brought pounds and pounds of dates :)). Wow, go EVA air!

I get in to Denpasar Sunday at 11 am, after which I'll be searching for a ticket to Sumba, which you may have heard me talk about if you checked out this blog before, as it was the final destination for my 2000 km bike ride I took last time, and which I visited two more times while I was still in Indo to hear gong music, attend rituals, and look at amazing hand woven ikat fabric.

This time in Indonesia I won't be in school, which means I can't stay as long but also means that I will be on my own schedule and so traveling to different places. Including another bike trip, this time across West Java and into Sumatra.

This time I will be more active on my blog as things go down, at least I hope and intend to!

One of my favorite lyrics from Digable Planets is: I love where I'm from, but I kick it where I'm at.

I often notice lately that I miss wherever I have been that I am not currently at. Which I suppose isn't too a bad thing, better than not wanting to be somewhere, but I notice it can be just a little distracting from where I'm at. Much love to all my friends from the places I have been. I hope you are all enjoying your life! Now is your chance! Go for it!!!
